Ikeahack: TV furniture top plate and office side desk from MDF, by Tim

For our Ikea cabinet we made a long top plate. This is now used as a TV furniture and for our son to play with! In addition, I made a side desk for my office on which I can store all my equipment.

Work description: how did you realize your project

The desk was relatively simple. First seal the edges with the edge sealer, then sand well and prime twice. After each paint job, the shelf was lightly sanded and after 3 good coats of black, the shelf had a nice even black color that matches my other desk. We made the top plate for the TV cabinet together using wooden dowels that I measured with a dowel jig. With some wood glue, a lot of patience and caution we got it in place on the TV cabinet. There we sealed the boards that had been put together, filled them with wood putty, sanded them very well so that you no longer saw the seams, primed and painted them.

Final size: What are the outer dimensions?

The TV cabinet is 3.90 x 0.42 meters, the side desk is 0.8 x 2.4 meters. Both have a thickness of 18mm.
