Description

I made a chimney conversion for an old chimney that has been closed up. Purely for decoration and to put something on and because it fits perfectly with the house.

How did you make the mantelpiece?

After some searching on Pinterest I found an example , which I really liked. I made a drawing of this and measured exactly how much wood I needed. I didn't want to saw it myself, so I tried to measure everything exactly so that I could order all the wood to size. Ultimately I made a mistake, which unfortunately meant I had to saw a number of slats myself. But that was another good lesson. After the wood arrived, I first put the plates together to get the shape. In retrospect I would have been better off doing it in 2 parts, but now it was quite difficult to glue the wooden slats on because there were no glue clamps at some points. With old books we managed to press everything well and let it dry. It also served as a support where necessary.
After the slats were glued in the right place, I placed the decorative slat on top. Then applied the first layer of primer and then removed some imperfections and painted it again and finally varnished it. I am still looking for a nice matching top plate and perhaps a decorative fireplace for it.

What are the outside dimensions?

The outside dimensions are 127.0 x 50.0 cm
